St. B's Parishioners on the Diocesan Mission Trip to New Orleans

Between May 9 and May 18 Parishoners from all over the Diocese of Western Michigan joined together to participate in a Mission to do our part to help rebuild New Orleans. St. Barnabas Parishoners on the Mission TripFrom St. Barnabas we sent (from left to right) John, Carl, Kari, Jim, Emma, & Frank. During their time in New Orleans they worked with the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana's Office of Disaster response to help them complete rebuilding projects for several families. 
Intern Jim Perra muds a drywall cielingOne of our groups two main jobs was to finish the drywall for a family of eleven who are living in a one-room garage on their lot until renovation of their new home can be completed! The other was to complete the gutting demolition of a home badly damaged during Hurricane Katrina, while reinforcing its weakened frame at the same time.Picture of the Tonti house crew taking a well deserved breakSome members of that crew got to spend the majority of the week under the house...Frank Blaise and Jim PerraWhile in New Orleans we were graciously host by the "Beacon of Hope" homecoming center and by St. Paul's, an Episcopal Church who has become a leader in revitalizing the Lakeside community.
